Whistler Film Festival - The Old and the New

The 2007 Whistler Film Festival (the seventh event) was a huge success. And plans are starting to make the 2008 Festival even bigger and better.

Whistler Film FestivalAbout 7,000 people attended the festival this winter, some coming from far away to see the movie selection. It was a boost for Whistler, a blast for locals and visitors, and success for all the movies presented. For the first time, a major broadcaster covered the event with a clip in Entertainment Tonight this January.

Movies starts where seen in the Village’s streets and the Mountain’s slopes, and we have heard that some major industry deals were made during the event, particularly the agreement PKU Starlight and Movie Plus to co-produce a live action version of “Mulan” next year.

But even with all this success, plans for 2008 are already starting. Whistler’s Monthly Independent Film Series will show some of this year’s best indies. With Whistler Stories, it’s up to four filmmakers who will be awarded cash and in-kind commissions to help them make a short film about Whistler and the surrounding area.
And of course, the call for submission for the 2008 Whistler Film Festival is getting closer.

The Whistler Film Festival is an example of Whistler’s world wide reputation not only as a –wonderful- ski and snowboard destination, but also as a cultural hub for all arts. Come discover this unique place, book your Whistler accommodation with Aloha Whistler.
