Whistler Road Report June 19 2009

Alpine Paving will be continuing the Highway 99 Whistler Improvements Project along the Sea-to-Sky corridor on the south end of Whistler.

Due to the Municipality of Whistler’s fire regulations, the hours of work for the project have been adjusted in order to maintain a full work schedule while complying with the fire regulations. Daily construction will now commence at 5:00am and will be completed by 1:00pm, Monday to Saturday.

The following is the construction schedule and associated traffic control measures to be implemented:

Week Of: June 22 to June 27

Scheduled Work Activities:

Hydro duct line and manhole installation along east side of Highway 99 (adjacent to the northbound travel lanes) between Hillcrest Road and Panorama Drive;
Rock excavation, drilling, and blasting for hydro duct installation along east side of Highway 99 (adjacent to the northbound travel lanes) between Brio Entrance and Whistler Way;
Placement of rock fill on the west side of Highway 99 (adjacent to southbound travel lanes) at the Lakecrest Pond area;
Shoulder widening works (i.e. barrier removal, saw-cutting, and excavation activities) on the west side of Highway 99 (adjacent to the southbound travel lanes) between Function Junction and Alta Lake Road and the east side of Highway 99 (adjacent to the northbound travel lanes) between Alta Lake Road and Lake Placid Road;
Paving works on the east side of Highway 99 (adjacent to the northbound travel lanes) between Whistler Road and Nordic Drive;

Traffic Control Considerations:

Monday to Saturday, 5:00am to 1:00pm:
Short sections of lane shifts / diversions along the length of the work area with less than 5-minute delays for traffic control personnel assisted truck access and egress;
Monday to Thursday, 9:00am to 1:00pm / Friday, 9:00am to noon:
Short sections of single lane alternating traffic patterns along the length of the work area with less than 15-minutes delays for off-loading materials and pouring concrete / backfill material;
Monday to Thursday, 9:00am to 1:00pm / Friday, 9:00am to noon:
Intermittent short duration stoppages resulting in a 15-minute delays for blasting procedures in the Brio area;

Week Of: June 29 to July 4

Scheduled Work Activities:

Hydro duct line and manhole installation along east side of Highway 99 (adjacent to the northbound travel lanes) between Blueberry Drive to Whistler Way;
Placement of rock fill on the west side of Highway 99 (adjacent to southbound travel lanes) at the Lakecrest Pond and Nordic Drive areas;
Shoulder widening works (i.e. barrier removal, saw-cutting, and excavation activities) on the west side of Highway 99 (adjacent to the southbound travel lanes) between Function Junction and Alta Lake Road and the east side of Highway 99 (adjacent to the northbound travel lanes) between Alta Lake Road and Lake Placid Road;
Paving works on the east side of Highway 99 (adjacent to the northbound travel lanes) between Whistler Road and Nordic Drive;
Retaining wall construction on west side of Highway 99 (adjacent to southbound lanes) at Nordic Drive area;

Traffic Control Considerations:

Monday to Thursday, 5:00am to 1:00pm:|

Monday to Wednesday, 9:00am to 1:00pm / Thursday, 9:00am to noon:
Short sections of single lane alternating traffic patterns along the length of the work area with less than 15-minutes delays for off-loading materials and pouring concrete / backfill material;
Monday to Wednesday, 9:00am to 1:00pm / Thursday, 9:00am to noon:
Intermittent short duration stoppages resulting in a 15-minute delays for blasting procedures in the Bayshore Drive area;

** Note: Alpine Paving will be holding the statutory holiday requirements on Friday, July 3rd in lieu of Wednesday, July 1st. *

Upcoming Work Advisory

Please be advised that commencing in two weeks time, Alpine Paving will begin the grade reduction roadwork at Nordic Hill. This phase of the contract entails placing road sub-grade on Highway 99 between Nordic Drive and Hillcrest Drive. Due to the significant potential impacts to the traveling public, Alpine has decided to complete the work between the hours of 11:00pm and 6:00am.

During the scheduled work window, the permissible delays / closures include 30-minute delays during the entire shift (11:00pm to 6:00am), and temporary full closures from 3:00am to 5:00am, Monday to Friday. As Alpine Paving approaches the commencement date, further details will be provided regarding the temporary closures / traffic delay impacts to the public.
