Whistler Road Report - September 2, 2009
Alpine Paving will be continuing the Highway 99 Whistler Improvements Project along the Sea-to-Sky corridor on the south end of Whistler.
The Resort Municipality of Whistler's fire regulation restrictions have recently been upgraded to "High" hazard level and thereby all construction activity restrictions within the forest interface have been reinstated during the higher hazard conditions. The hours of work for the project have reverted back to the specialized permitted hours with work commencing at 7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Saturday with all work within the interface terminating by 1:00pm daily.
(Please Note: In the event of any changes to the fire regulation restrictions, an update will be forwarded to stakeholders to advise them of the changes in the hours of construction.)
The following is the construction schedule and associated traffic control measures to be implemented:
Week Of: August 31 to September 5
Scheduled Work Activities:
- Grade reconstruction and hydro duct installation on Highway 99 between Nordic Drive and Hillcrest Drive; **This work will result in narrow lanes and a gravel road surface until the new grade is attained and the roadway is paved**

- Shoulder reconstruction on the east side of Highway 99 (adjacent to northbound lanes) between Lake Placid Road and London Lane;

- Monday to Thursday, 9:00am to 1:00pm / Friday, 9:00am to noon: Short sections of single lane alternating traffic patterns along the length of the work area with less than 15-minutes delays for off-loading materials and pouring concrete / backfill material;
Week Of: September 8 to September 12
**Upcoming Work Advisory**During the week of September 8 to September 12, the grade reduction activities on Highway 99 between Nordic Drive and Hillcrest Drive should be at the final design grade. Once the grading work is completed, the next phase would be to pave the surface. Due to the significant potential impacts to the traveling public, Alpine has decided to complete the work between the hours of 11:00pm and 6:00am. During the scheduled work window, the permissible delays / closures include 30-minute delays during the entire shift (11:00pm to 6:00am), and temporary full closures from 3:00am to 5:00am, Monday to Friday. Further details will be provided next week regarding the temporary closures / traffic delay impacts to the public during the scheduled works.
