World Cup Skiing in Whistler

The FIS World Cup arrives in Whistler on February 18 until February 24 and will see the best skiers competing for women's and men's trophies.

Whistler Creekside will become the centre of attention of the skiing community during those few days (not that is is usually far from the centre of attention) with the women's Downhill and Super Combined happening on the brand new Women's Speed track. For men, it will be the Super G and Giant Slalom on the newly renovated Dave Murray Downhill course.

fis_world_cup_whistler.jpgBoth courses will be used during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic events and this will be a chance for the competitors to test the runs. Whistler Blackcomb is already promising some of the best and most challenging courses on the World Cup circuit.

This week will be special for athletes, patriots and locals. With both men and women races occurring around the same dates, it's more people around and a bigger even in perspective. And of course there is a good change that many members of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team will make the trip to test the terrain and put on a show for their fans. In addition many of the athletes have a Whistler connection and will be warmly welcome on their mountain by spectators.

To make the week a whole event, live outdoor concerts will pump up the crowds at the Village Square with DJ Shortfuse and Black Swadem DJ Foxy Moron, the Johnstones, Hedley, DJ Vinyl Richie, Shad and K-OS coming on stage on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd.

And since the mountain will still operate as normal during this time, it gives you all the good reasons to come for a few days in Whistler and enjoy this very special event. Contact Aloha Whistler to book your accommodation and take a chance to ring a cow-bell on the courses!
