Save Money by Booking Direct with Aloha!

When planning your trip to the stunning mountains of Whistler, British Columbia, saving money is always a welcome bonus. One of the best ways to do this is by booking directly with Aloha Whistler Accommodations. While popular online booking platforms like Airbnb and VRBO are convenient, they often come with hidden fees that can add up quickly. By booking directly with Aloha, you can avoid these fees and put more money back in your pocket.

Let’s take a closer look at the fees charged by Airbnb and VRBO.

Airbnb’s guest service fees are typically around 14.2% of the booking subtotal but can be even higher. From April 1st, 2024, for bookings where the guest pays using a different currency from the one set by the Host, the guest service fee can be up to 16.5% of the booking subtotal. The total guest service fee can vary based on a variety of factors and may be higher or lower depending on the booking.

On the other hand, VRBO’s service fee is a percentage of the total amount of the reservation, excluding taxes and refundable fees paid by the guest. The exact amount of the service fee varies, but generally, the higher the reservation amount, the lower the percentage of the service fee. Guest service fees generally range from 6% to 15% of the reservation’s subtotal.

Feast and Fireside: Whistler’s Top Winter Dining Destinations

As winter descends again and those first glorious layers of powder cover the mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb, there’s more to look forward to than epic ski slopes and breathtaking mountain vistas.

Whistler’s abundance of excellent dining establishments won’t just feed you – they’ll provide a refuge from the cold and a taste of pure comfort. We couldn’t possibly cover them all here, but read on to learn about a few of our coziest restaurants and their hearty dishes that promise to both fill your belly and warm your soul.

Rimrock Cafe: Fine food and great service in an elegant atmosphere

The Rimrock Cafe is known as Whistler’s go-to for upscale fish and game with an inspired menu full of creative takes on familiar dishes. Come here to treat yourself to an elegant yet rustic ambiance, a wine cellar that’s reason enough to linger, and wait staff known for their attentive and accommodating service.

The Seared Scallops with house cured bacon, apple and leek puree & pickled charred leek are a great starter to awaken the taste buds, and the Beef Tenderloin Tartare is exquisite.

For your main course we recommend the Wild Salmon, or the Roasted Rack of Lamb covered with herb provençal and served with garlic mashed potatoes and a red wine demi. The Grilled Asparagus with Lemon Butter makes an excellent side.

Enjoy the picturesque scenery along with your evening of exceptional service and unforgettable cuisine, and be sure to book your reservation well in advance as you won’t be the only ones coming in from the cold.

IL Caminetto: Sophisticated and elegant Italian classics with a modern touch

The ambiance of this restaurant led by some of the country’s top chefs is as mellowed as a finely aged wine, perfectly reflected in its name, which is Italian for “the fireplace.” Exactly where you want to be to tuck yourself away from the winter chill.

Featuring an expertly curated 4-course menu Sunday through Thursday, as well as a modern alla carte menu that reimagines Italian classics, you’ll be hard pressed to choose because everything at Il Caminetto is superb.

Our personal favorite? The currently featured “Prix Fixe” four course menu.

Start things off with a cicchetti of sicilian olives accompanied by roasted tomatoes, chilies, herbs, and orange zest. Next up, your antipasti. How about the Whistler Harvest Mushroom Risotto? Lavishly garnished with grana padano, chives, porcini, and truffle essence, this dish embodies warmth and comfort.

Now for your secondi. We can’t help but recommend the Tagliatelle Bolognese made with Brant Lake wagyu beef. Pair this dish with a recommendation from Il Caminetto’s wine experts and you’ll be in heaven.

And finally, your dolci: the tiramisu is fantastic, but why not try something new with the Torta Caprese. Hazelnut whipped ganache with candied hazelnuts and spiced chantilly cream?

“Molto bello!”

Wild Blue Restaurant + Bar: Show stopping fine dining

Wild Blue is a relative newcomer to the culinary scene, but that hasn’t stopped it from quickly becoming known as one of the best restaurants in BC led by industry veterans and top chefs. This is elevated Pacific Northwest seafood cuisine at its finest, with a focus on sustainable and local ingredients.

Start things off with oysters harvested from the coastal waters of BC, or the divine caviar with creme fraiche, potato blini and smoked salmon. Choose from a number of mouthwatering appetizers like poached Dungeness crab with louie sauce or an Autumn Carrot Soup with hazelnut chantilly.

Move on to some house-made pasta or indulge in an entree of Pan Roasted Ling Cod or the to-die-for Sablefish with turnip, radish, maitake mushroom, sesame, and roasted fish bone sauce. For dessert, we recommend the Toffee Pudding with candied walnut, dates, almond streusel, salted caramel ice cream, and toffee sauce.

Keep a glass of champagne at your side and enjoy the culinary mastery at Wild Blue.

Snow Seekers: Get Ready For Opening Day at Whistler-Blackcomb

As opening day approaches and we all start dusting off our ski, snowboard, and winter adventure gear, let’s take a look at some of the facts about Whistler’s snowfall and winter weather to help you prepare for the coming season.

Whistler Blackcomb Climate Facts

Whistler and Blackcomb are located in the Coast Mountain Range, given that name due to their proximity to the Pacific coast. Being so close to the ocean means Whistler Blackcomb is blessed with moderate winter weather. Temperatures here don’t typically go lower than -10°C (12°F) in the valley and -15°C (5°F) in the alpine during the coldest part of the year.

Average Alpine Temperatures for Whistler Blackcomb

December to February
Low: -12°C / 11°F
High: -5°C / 23°F

March to May
Low: -8°C / 19°F
High: 5°C / 42°F

Average Snowfall
465 inches / 38.7 ft / 11.8 m per year on summit

Of course, that doesn’t mean it can’t get considerably colder than that, so always prepare accordingly with layers that can be added or subtracted to keep you cozy and well-ventilated on the slopes or on the streets of the village.

Snowfall Stats

Whistler Blackcomb consistently offers some of the most reliable snow conditions in the Coast Mountain Range, receiving an average annual snowfall of around 11 meters, and 86 annual snowfall days.

It’s no secret that Whistler is legendary for its powder–but check out the chart below showing a variety of stats that might help you plan your trip around when you’re most likely to get the best conditions for shredding the slopes.

In spite of its proximity to the coast, Whistler’s snow is known for being fluffy, light, and as you can see from the chart above, plentiful. Snow on these mountains is generally dry and ready to be carved up for your board or skis.

So–itching for opening day, yet?

Dress For The Alpine Weather

There are a few main factors to consider when it comes to your winter weather gear. Ideally you want to hit that Goldilocks zone where you’re neither too hot or too cold–just right.

This means having breathable materials that allow for ventilation and wicking away the moisture from your body. But you also want to have a shell that protects you from the wind if it’s a particularly cold day.

Staying warm but not too warm is all about layers that you can add or remove as needed. And it’s always a good idea to invest in certain high quality items, especially socks and gloves.

Making sure you’re properly dressed can mean the difference between a great day or a miserable day, so plan carefully and pack accordingly!

Get Your Gear Ready

If you don’t have gear or aren’t sure where to get it, here are a few options to get your gear ready:

Whistler Winter Wear: They deliver right to your door and you can try on multiple sizes until you have exactly the right fit. They cover clothing, skis, and snowboards.

Whistler Sport Legacies: Located at the Whistler Olympic Park, they have you covered for your snowshoes and skis, and offer both daily and full-season rentals.

Black Tie Ski Rental: They have skis (cross country and alpine), boards, boots, and locations on both mountains, and free delivery with custom fitting.

Best Times to Visit Whistler During Winter Season

For maximum excitement, consider coming for your trip in November and December. With activity on the mountains ramping up there can be quiet days with short lift lines and even cheaper accommodations, but this is an exciting time when Whistler is packed with events and holiday activities. So keep that in mind when you plan your trip!

With events like Wintersphere and The Fire and Ice Show, and a whole lot more, any time through November and December will be a memorable experience filled with excitement for you and your family.

For powderhounds, January and February bring some of the coldest temperatures and the driest, fluffiest snow of the winter season. Likewise, there’s a slight drop-off in visitors, so you’re likely to have somewhat shorter wait times for the lift and fewer people on the mountain.

The Village is generally quieter during this time as well–except during spring break–so getting that reservation at your favorite restaurant should be easier too.

Opening Day

For many people the countdown has already started and the date is marked on every calendar they own–November 23, 2023 is the opening day for the 23/24 season at Whistler Blackcomb.

One exciting announcement for those itching to get on the slopes this year is that Whistler-Blackcomb’s Fitzsimmons Express chairlift is being replaced this year with a high speed 8-person lift, which will reduce wait times and get you up the mountain faster.

Just another reason to have your gear ready for November 23! Need Whistler Accommodations? Click here to book your dream Whistler Vacation today!

Adventure Differently – Summer 2020

Our community has been working closely over the past months to ensure Whistler’s return to tourism is managed thoughtfully and responsibly, with enhanced safety protocols in place. Now BC has entered Phase 3 of the BC restart plan, Whistler is certainly ready to welcome visitors.

Let’s interact considerately, Let’s play simply, Let’s explore responsibly, Let’s enjoy patiently!

Whistler Blackcomb has started spinning their gondolas on June 29th for mountain biking and sightseeing. The Whistler Village Gondola, PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola and Blackcomb Gondola will be operating to bring sightseers and hikers up the mountains. To do this you’ll need to purchase a PEAK 2 PEAK 360 Experience Ticket, which gives you access to all the gondolas. Our recommendation is to do this in advance online to reduce contact and save time.

At this time hikers and sightseers are being directed to upload via the Blackcomb Gondola in the Upper Village and bikers in the Whistler Village Gondola to help ease possible congestion points at the base of the mountains.

The Peak Chair, which accesses the highest part of Whistler Mountain where the Cloudraker Skybridge and snow walls are located, will not be open this summer. Some higher alpine hiking trails are still under snow (which is typical for this time of year), but will hopefully open later this summer.

Whistler Farmers Market

The first Whistler Farmers Market of the summer has taken place, restarting July 5th at a new location,  The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre parking lot and bus loop. You can find fresh local produce, tasty food and artisan goods. Some of the local vendors include: Laughing Crow Organics, Maple Sugar Shack, Plenty Wild Farms, The Garden Shed, Whistler Wood Fire Pizza Company and many more.

Whistler Business Update

Few more local businesses have recently opened up their doors to guests and visitors such as Scandinave Spa Whistler, The Adventure Group with popular Vallea Lumina experience, or Cross Country Connections. Whistler is certainly getting busier and we can see more visitors who are hoping to “Adventure Differently” this summer. For the full list of local businesses open hour and their practices, please click here.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions!
