The 16 days of Opening Day (almost better than Christmas): Day 11 - Cross Country Skiing

On the 11th day of Opening day, my true love gave to me…..lapsaround Lost Lake and the Callaghan??

As Whistler and Whistlerites gear up for the start of anotheramazing season, in the 16 days leading up to Opening Day, I’m goingto give you 16 different ideas of some awesome things to do thiswinter season!

NUMBER 11:

Cross Country Skiing around the Whistler and Callaghanvalleys!
Not all skiing has to be done on a steep incline, turns out tonsof people love skiing the flats too!

Whistler Valley offers up to 28 kilometers of Cross Country skitracks around Lost Lake, Chateaux Whistler Golf course, andNicklaus North Golf course. With tons of different tacks for allskill levels, you’re bound to get a good workout, and enjoy some ofthe gorgeous scenery the Whistler Valley has to offer.

If 28 kilometers doesn’t sound like enough for you, then head downto the Callaghan Valley home of Whistler Olympic Park (site ofthe Nordic events for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and ParalympicWinter Games) where they offer up to 90(!!)Kilometers of cross country skiing goodness!
All trails are expertly groomed for both classic and skateskiing, and range from beginner to Olympic calibre.

I’d say the hot tub at the end of that will be well worthit!

The 16 days of Opening Day (almost better than Christmas): Day 13 – Scandinave Spa

The 16 days of Opening Day (almost better than Christmas): Day 13 – Scandinave Spa

The 16 days of Opening Day (almost better than Christmas): Day 13 - Scandinave Spa

On the 13th day of Opening day, my true love gave tome…..Relaxation aplenty??

As Whistler and Whistlerites gear up for the start of anotheramazing season, in the 16 days leading up to Opening Day, I’m goingto give you 16 different ideas of some awesome things to do thiswinter season!

NUMBER 13:

The Scandinave Spa!
A relaxing treat no matter what the conditions are likeoutside.

Whether you’re tired from an amazing day on the hills orbackcountry, or the weather just isn’t cooperating to let you getup to slash some powder turns, why not head to the spa and letyourself completely relax?

Oh, only women go to Spas? Silly Man, this isn’t your typical spawhere all the ladies gather, get their nails done and gossip aboutthe latest in the who’s who and the what’s what. No siree,Bob!
Rather here it’s all done in silence. So unless you’ve masteredESP, or have a penchant for gossip by sign language, you can restassured that you will leave this little Oasis wanting more.

Mixing hot and cold baths, steam saunas and dry saunas, you willput your body back into a natural state of relaxation. Oh and notalking allowed. Ok, perhaps a slight squeel as you go from the hottub to the cold tub. But that’s it!

And if THAT isn’t relaxing enough, why not add a Massage into thepackage, delivered by some of the top notch RMT staff onsite!
But be forewarned, they MAY have to peel you off of the massagetable by the end of it all.

Keep an eye on our site for some exclusive deals to add into yourvacation package.

The 16 days of Opening Day (almost better than Christmas): Day 15 – Fire & Ice

The 16 days of Opening Day (almost better than Christmas): Day 15 – Fire & Ice

The 16 days of Opening Day (almost better than Christmas): Day 15 - Fire & Ice

On the 15th day of Opening day, my true love gave tome…..wreckless abandon on the steep and deeps??

As Whistler and Whistlerites gear up for the start of anotheramazing season, in the 16 days leading up to Opening Day, I’m goingto give you 16 different ideas of some awesome things to do thiswinter season!

NUMBER 15:

Fire & Ice Show!
Kind of like a circus on snow.

Be amazed by some of Whistler’s best skiers and snowboarders asthey hit a massive big air jump through blazing rings of fire todazzle the crowd!
Fireworks, Firespinners, and snowflakes. What better way to spendyour Sunday evenings.

Best of all, it’s FREE for the whole family.
It all goes down every sunday at the base of Whistler Mountainstarting at 6.30pm (between Dec 16 – Mar 3). Because of Daylightssavings time, as of March 10th the craziness starts at7.30pm.

And if you happen to not have any kids with you, make sure tocheck out AFTERBURN – The Official after party.
Once the Fire & Ice are burnt out, the night rages on atGaribaldi Lift Co. (GLC) for the infamous Afterburn Party. Livemusic from Whistler favourites The Hairfarmers, and more prize giveaways than you can shake a stick at, it is definitely a prettymemorable (or maybe so good you don’t remember) way to cap off theweek.

Just remember, after 8pm it’s adults only! Maybe time to invest ina babysitter for the night?

Rain in the Village, means snow in the Alpine

Rain in the Village, means snow in the Alpine

Our long, long summer seems to finally be coming to an end, andwith it the valley and village have been getting a littlewet.
However, there is a marked upside to all this rain. It means onething right now: Snow in the Alpine!

Freezing levels are already dropping off to 1,500m (around PigAlley) by the weekend, and with up to 30 cm’s forecasted betweennow and then, you can guarantee all the locals who’ve beensnow-dancing these past few weeks, are finally seeing the fruits oftheir labour pay off!

You can even see our snow line creeping down the mountain in thepicture above!
Thank ULLR!
